A little more about the Lancia Scorpion

Post by ICF »

http://www.projectlancia.com/

This car was raced in the early '80s with a 16 valve, 2 liter turbo-charged engine that spider enthusiasts will easily recognize the origins of: The 2 liter FIAT DOHC engine.

If you have pictures or knew the driver or owner, please send what you know. It was not an Indy car, but it did compete in the GTO (that's right 'GTO', not 'GTU' class) IMSA racing on So. Cal. tracks against cars of far greater displacement.

And later, adapted to be a street car (!), it was raced on Muhlholland Drive in LA.

Please send what info you may have!

OH, THE TARGET IS TO HAVE THIS LANCIA RACE CAR READY FOR ItalianCarFest Weekend - SEPT. 2007.

I don't remember IMSA ever being very active in So Cal. SCCA events were plentiful though

IMSA questions

Post by ICF »

Mark- Yours is a good question. How long the IMSA series was in So. Cal. is a question. We speculated the car was a club racer in SCCA events and when IMSA series was brought into the area, the car was enhanced to run in the GTO class.

BTW, an old hand at racing speculated the prize money was pretty high in GTO class motivating the Scorpion's owner to set up the car for that class.

BTW, I have the phone # of the driver and plan to call him very soon.

I imagine the car would have been GTO because of the turbo. Good luck talking with the driver. BTW, what's his/her name?
