Sam's Hawaiian Hibernation

Post by manoa matt »

Sam arrived at my work on Friday. I wanted to stage a few shots of me inspecting it with a stethescope, drilling holes in the box, and cutting it open with a saw, with a bunch of stuffing and fur flying, but work was busy and I just needed to post the picture alieve his "mother's" anxiety.

The very first thing we do with any visitor is get them laid. So I found and modified a lei for Sam, I wanted to find him an aloha shirt, but even the 12month old cloths were huge on him. I'm sure I'll find something before he leaves.

You guys wern't kidding, this guy is a horn ball. As soon as he gets in the door, he decides to turn on a lamp, and when I mean he "turns on the lamp" he realy does. Here he is just "saying hi" http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4188732807/

And then he starts to get all touchy feeley with her. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4189487722/ Good thing that lamp is not on a "clapper" switch.

After I pry him away from the lamp lady, he says he wants to play some music but dosen't know how: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4189487728/ but he quickly gets the hang of it and starts playing Tiny Bubbles http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4189487734/

As the night was wrapping up Sam decided to do a bit of light reading before going to bed: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4189487740/ I peeked over his shoulder to see what was so interesting: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4189489378/ I wonder why he likes that page?

Those last photos of Sam's bedtime reading would make any mother proud! What a good little bear he is. I really do need to find him a female bear. His interest in bunnies and lamps really has me worried.

only a mother could say that about Sam. the rest o us know better than that! count your blessings that he's not in a juvenile hall somewhere by now, with a pack-0-smokes rolled up in his t-shirt sleeve and a ducktail. i am surprised he isn't sporting INK.

You evidently haven't seen him with his shirt off. Heck, even his Mama's got INK.

I don't know if I even believe that he's in Hawaii, those pics could be anywhere.

I wish I picked up this thread earlier this week. I'm in Honolulu visiting my family :D . I could have verified Sam's presence here in the Islands. Alas, I leave this afternoon back to the Mainland :( .

Even Mom's got INK? Oh really. Any chance we get to see?
You go Sam! I can see you're trying to catch up with Matt's Fiat knowledge.

I've got an idea. Take Sam to the Duke Kahanamoku statue at a pre-set time, then his mom can see him live on the webcam!

OK, OK, I got some activities planned this weekend, its been a busy week at work, and my wife left to go back to Chicago on Tuesday, a week before me. So now its just me and Sam. (Hmmm, I don't think anyone has taken Sam to a strip club yet, don't know if they would let me take pictures in there.)

The Duke statue live web cam does sound like a good idea, granted Hawaii is 6 hours behind Central time, so I get up early, or you guys stay up late. I'll try to make it there on Sunday afternoon as you guys are wrapping up your Sunday night in front of the computer. How about 9pm. central time which is 3pm my time?

Thats too bad Greg, I would have picked you up in the spider and showed you around. Guests are always welcome here.

Craig, we are not expecting 15" of snow, but we did get 50 foot waves on the North Shore last week.

STAY TUNED!

I didn't make it down to the "Duke" statue on Sunday, to busy with fiat stuff as usual.

Sam wanted to see my workshop/parts storage area: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4206347397/
In the back center of that pic you can see "Dopey"

Here Sam meets Dopey. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4206347403/
I found Dopey in the last parts car I bought. He always has a smile on his face but is mentaly unfit to work on cars. He is barely fit to hold up that paper sign, so his only job is to guard the parts and watch me work.

Sam checking out some of the parts: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4206347405/ MMMMM carbs!

Sam asks me "What the heck is this contraption?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4206347413/ Well Sam, thats my "Maytag" media blast cabinet. Its rubber lined with a light inside, works pretty good. Does the air filter on top look familiar?

I wanted to put Sam to work cleaning parts, but he complained "My little bear arms are too short!" http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4206347417/

So after a long anticipated wait, Sam inspects the Chariot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4207108236/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4207108234/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4207108232/

I snapped these while driving to work today. Here are some Hawaiian Christmas decorations: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4207108246/

And here is Obama's boyhood home/apartment. They are trying to make it a historical landmark. It will be the first presidential boy hood home that is not a home but an apartment: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_fiat/4207108248/

Today is my last day in Hawaii before I go to Chicago and Cincinnati to see my wife's and my families. I'll try to post a few more shots today. I may try to meet up with Lee Putman in Chicago and Dave in Indy if we can find the time.

Sam is making friends all over the continent. Nice looking Fiat, Matt! Have a safe trip to Chicago. You'll be wishing you were back home soon enough.

That's his Irish cousin, Fred.
This thread is way past the weird part, but it's fun to have everyone show off where they're from, their cars, homes and families. I've enjoyed it!
