Even the snow couldn't take away from a great time we had at the King Of
Concrete go kart racing event at the Greensboro coliseum. When Amber started
racing, we had no clue how big this sport was. The event she participated in
this weekend drew 300 karts from all over, from Florida to Conneticut and as
far west as Wisconsin. The event was held in the Coliseum annex where a small
track was made by using tire barriers and pouring coca-cola syrup on the
floor. What I witnessed was amazing. The coke made the kart stick so well,
the drivers had to withstand 4g's of force while going 50 mph around the small
track. Amber did well qualifying 5th, but she crashed a couple times because
of her neck getting tired. The track was so fast, the drivers hardly had
time to set up for a pass and if they weren't in the best possible shape, you
could watch their head start to bob to the right. First place in the big race
paid $3000 and they really did have to work for it. Check out this video:

If Amber is interested in trying next year, we'll have to build up those
muscles!
Awesome weekend!

Denise, that is awesome. Good for your daughter, that looks kinda wild. Very competitve.
Looking at the couple of spills, glad she was'nt hurt.
What powers those karts... rotax,honda?
Mom gonna let her be the next Danica Patrick?

Re: Awesome weekend!
The karts are powered by a 5hp Briggs engine...Ron's been eyeballing the one on my tiller. They do have Hondas and some people actually run Kawasaki motorcycle engines on these little karts that make them wicked.

Re: Awesome weekend!
Awesome!! I was looking into buying one of those after I got out of racing motorcycles. Just never did it. Maybe it was because they had to cut my race suit off after I had the accident. It cost me $2ooo. I thought I'm done.
Re: Awesome weekend!
Thats great exposure for her! I hope you turn right once in a while too! I see a future Midget racer. They do both kinds of racing. Dirt and asphault.
Re: Awesome weekend!
Way to go, Amber! Maybe your Pop can design something for your cart to lean your head against. For now, start working on those neck exercises!
