Western Wheel mag Wheels

Post by CECE »

Hi, I have a Spider 124 from 1977 whitch came from LA to Sweden in the 80's.
The car have Western Wheel 13x5,5 mag wheels without any center caps. Is there anyone who know if the wheels should have center caps or not ?

My Spider was bought of a Swedish guy who worked some yers in LA an he bought it from a guy who worked with boats.
He took it with him when he moved back to Sweden in 1986.
It was dark green fro the beginning and it was repainted to beige. Now its dark green agin.

Hi Cece,

I had those wheels on my Spider when I got it over from Atlanta but changed to the Turbos later on as there is no way in Germany to get these wheels legal. I still have one or two of the center caps in the garage not in best condition.... if you want them you can have them for the cost of shipping (GY to SE). Btw - if you want a spare set of wheels you can have mine as well, same price ;-) Send me a PM if interested.

ciao,
Stefan

Because they do not have gone throught the tests by the TÜV - similar to get the approval to put a DOT-stamp on parts in the US they would need an "ABE" here. For whatever burocratic reason the officials here do not accept tests done by other states legal authorities.

If you put those rims on your car, i can't imagine a cop driving down the street thinking "I need to check those rims to see if they are legal".

Unlikely, but in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, it will be a good enough reason for an insurance company to refuse to cover in the case of an accident. Odd, but true. A little piece of paper showing conformity can be quite valuable here.
