building a 1438 stocker for a 68 124 spider.

Post by spiderrey »

well, i finally started putting this motor together today.been a slow process getting it to the machine shop. and back here. then waiting for funds to complete the build. i went to install the crank, but it did not fit, due to the thrust berings being too thick. go figure that one. the crank was only polished, and the berings are supposed to be a standard size.measurement of the block with the berings installed was 072, measurement of the crank was 042.
getting new pistons took a few weeks since they had to come from italy. and they werent cheap. picked up a new water pump , but still need a fan blade and fan clutch.

I was only in the shop for about 2 hrs this morning and I answered my cell just before getting online, but the call was lost! Did you measure the thickness of the old thrust bearings?

we checked that, they were not. its been about 24 years since i built my last motor, so i made a rookie mistake. i had the crank slightly cocked, so it would not drop in. dropped right in on the next try though. today ill install the pistons, the engines going to loook real nice. going to be nicely detailed when done.

are you calling me a block head again. lol the block is ford grey, just like my two liter, the head is cleared, and the engine will have a little more detail then mine, minus the polished aluminum of course.

i use dupli-color engine enamal. it has ceramic in it. its engine paint. i get it at the local kragen. if you clean the aluminum parts real good and then clear them . it looks good. if u bead blast the aluminum, ithen clear it it looks great. i also spray the clear over the other painted parts, they r also sprayed with the duplicolor paint, but the clear brings out the color a little more.
