Spider on the cover!

Post by gigi »

Yes, once again our star has hit magazine covers across the nation. The February 2010 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic displays a luscious model followed by a two page presentation (p24) with few words and big pictures. The article is titled 'All fun, No Fret.' Incidentally, the next article pays tribute to the Abarth 850 TC. Worth checking out and drooling over.

Great article! Too bad they picked a '79 ;-) Several people brought it this week to our club meeting. We all got our subscriptions for a $10/yr special. I will definitely renew.

The Abarth feature was really interesting (and yes, that car is gorgeous).

Sadly we do not appear to get the Hemmings publication here in OZ, however there is a multi page article on the Spider in this month's Auto Italia mag.

unfortunately, the author of the article gets a D- for research.

#1-that car is inferred to be a completely stock unit. anyone see anything that isn't stock on that particular car?
#2-the author cannot tell the difference between a 1800 DOHC and an illusion. anyone here with a pre-two litre running a single overhead cam engine?
and
#3-how many have you actually seen SOLD for $12,000 ??? that sounds awefully high to me. I'd love to believe it, but honestly don't.

Hey here in America we never let the facts get in the way of a story.

Mine sold for close to that on Ebay. The LE listed in the magazine a few months ago on the cover also sold for $12K (I know, I almost bought it but someone beat me to it as everyone said the guy was asking way too much, well, apparently not).

But that was a few years ago and they weren't '79's.

So what is going on at the Hemmings Sports & Exotic. I have been reading that magazine for more than two years now and was starting to get used to the fact that they love there MG's and never ever mentioned Fiat Spiders.
Suddenly they have an article every month and keep saying how great of a car it is.
I am getting my hopes up that some day people on the street will say: Hey nice Fiat you got there and not is it a MG?
