Fiat Registry?

Ok... so I sat back and tried to foillow the logic on the thread for how many Fiat Spiders there are and where they are so it got me thinking about it.

I came up with a nice Registry and where the cars are located, etc. I've done a website with this in mind and would like to add a Fiat logo and advertising to support the site, etc. If you like the site and or have suggestions please forward them.

I started with Georgia and Florida as examples of what it would look like and what info could be added, etc. It works similar to Google Map.

As the administrator of the site I would have to those interested to be added to the site send me some info about the cars, pics, etc. and I would add them to the map, eventually this would be moved over to a commercial site instead of my homepage provider site later on .

I definitely think it's worth doing. I've owned other "collectibles" that had a registry, with several different formats.
The most useful ones have had features like:
ability to sort the registry with fields like location, year, "status" (ie: driver, crushed, show-car, etc), and even vin #.

I'm not familiar enough with all the features of the google-maps-type format you're describing, so maybe it will do this already?

Good point Mark but wasn't the topic earlier to find a way to document the registry and where the cars are in a real way, of course the European registry could document the cars in the US, but why not have our own registry for the cars on this site and maybe others... wouldn't that be a way to better know our Fiat friends and get the websites, URL's, pics, and some info on the cars all in one click?

Maytag... did you try double clicking on Georgia and Florida... a pop up window shows up with pics, info, URL, Registry info, some history of how you got the car or what ever you care to put in... that's the jist of how this map would work, eventually I could tally the number of registrants and it'll show up in a window somewhere on the site.

my post was only to avoid duplicating something that might exist. If it does exist and is current, it may or may not incorporate some of the features you're setting up.

Mark... if this other registry exists do you know of anyone on this forum that is registered with that site, if it's defunct why would it matter... the one I've created is a fun way to register your car and I think it'll catch on later if we give it a chance.

I'm not sure if it's active or current. I used to get requests from them to register cars but I haven't heard from anyone in awhile. I'm not trying to discourage you, just didn't want you to put a lot of effort into duplicating something.

I know there was a register for 124 coupes which sadly wasn't updated after about April 07 and has now disappeared. I am aware of a European register but they encourage you to pay an annual fee for membership (which I may do one day) - a US based register would be a good asset to have.

Right Mark, it is here: http://www.fiatspider.de/index.php?opti ... Itemid=236 - it could make sense to get in touch with the owner (Ralf de Vree) to have these 6000something entries as a starting point.

I don't remember if that's the one my car is listed on or not. It's been quite a while ago.

There would be no fee to anyone to register the Fiats with my registry... any costs associated with keeping the site running would be bourne by any ads on my site... What would be the incentive not to join the fun aspect of having their cars on this map?

I could see where there would be no interest so if no one wants to join then there is no justification and I'll remove the site and just blow it off as something with no interest value.
