Fiat Registry?

I had a look but was obviously missing something too - I was clicking on the various states but all that was happening was that I moved around the US - couldn't find any Spider data, or figure out how to add any data.

Of course, I'd like to see it expand worldwide but that's just me...

Ok... having fun with this mapping website..

Tony, Brady, and Craig... you now are on the map... click the state your in and click the icon to see the info box...

Eventually the map will be framed within a webpage that looks better than what it is now... but it's working beautifully, the icons are hidden for now but later they'll be on all the time unless the icons are too many in one area...

The website I'm working on will contain the other half of the world by having the North American Continent on one half of the website and the European/Australian Continents on the other half... so working on it... trying to juggle a lot of things in a short time before I head out to Cali for some business.

I agree that the map is cool. And I can only imagine the amount of work that went into it; so way to-go Radio! I can understand your frustration at the beginning, as you must have spent some significant time on setting it up. I am glad that you put it back up though. Sometimes these things take time to catch-on.

It seems that this has changed from being a "registry", to being more of a "locator", as someone else called it. This certainly has it's own value, like helping us connect with other Fiat owners in our area, for instance. In my case, Rook1 has done a great job of making sure the people who visit this site (and therefore would become exposed to this map-locator) are aware of the "Utah Spider Assoc" yahoo group. But others may not have the advantage of a "local cheer-leader". (sorry Rook1, no offense intended, if you don't like cheer-leaders )

I still think that a real registry is a good idea. I think there were several posts at the beginning of this thread that discussed some of the features that a registry might have. Can this format that you've created accomodate those features? Or will we need to duplicate some effort, if the list determines that a registry is of value?

I think what you've done is great Radio. I think you mentioned at the beginning that this idea was born from another thread about how many still remain, and in what condition, geographic location, etc etc. (I'll take the blame for being a smart-a** in that thread and starting the "count-off", which side-tracked an otherwise very interesting question). I'd still like to be able to see, for instance, how many Spiders have been crushed / dismantled? How many are drivers? How many are restored vs original? How long do most Spiders stay with an owner? How many are in which countries? that sort of thing. And maybe your map will do many or all of these things? I don't know. I am accustomed to seeing that sort of registry in a spreadsheet type format, and so far the map doesn't seem intuitive in its use, so I'm excited about the things you've described that are in the works.

In the meantime:
I'm happy to PM you some details, so you can stick a pin in my head, right about where the Great Salt Lake is, in Utah!

Thanks... below is a short message sent to Craig:

"Regarding the members in other countries, I'm working on the other half of the world and within the website (still working on it) it will encompass both hemispheres... here is how it will work... when you click on your info there will be another click that will take to you a full registry similar to the other registries out there you're used to seeing, ie. a line by line entry.

The form I'm working on will take the data you input and automatically put you on the map and put your entry into the registry, this way I'm not maintaining the website constantly especially when I'm away from home."

Simply put it will be a registry of sorts similar to what you're used to but the added mapping feature is the fun part of it at least I think... looking at a registry is somewhat entertaining but has no real information about the owner or picture of the family and the car, etc., using my map feature you can update the photos, info, add the new additions to the family (kids, pets, cars, wives, girfriends, etc), try that with your regular registry existing now... come on you see where this could catch on...

Regarding the crushed cars, I don't think that could really be answered by anyone here, but the fact that you can actually post whether your car is drivable or not as in Brady's car (for now) is clearly posted in the info box, there will also be a counter somewhere in the website that would tally the number of cars listed on the map... This will take some time in the next couple of months to complete but for now we have you located on the map.

As to the crushed cars: you'd only know if we tell ya. So, in otherwords: when I'm done parting-out one that I just picked-up... and I send it to the crusher, we could list that VIN as "CRUSHED".

Correct Dan... when the 'other' registry is added there will be a box and a "RIP' line added so we can all mourn those crushed cars.

I know how the thread started that caused the creation of this Fiat Registry, what are you trying to accomplish? A Fiat registry? A Fiat Spider Registry? A Fiat 124 Registry? A Fiat 124 Spider Registry? I have cars that fit into all of the above. Wha would you like?
