Hi I am looking to purchase something in this age class and was wondering if one year was better than another? Thanks

Re: FI 80' vs. 81' vs. 82' any quirks?
Cars... no Owners..... yes
I believe all the parts are interchangable, except perhaps the water jacket on the intake plenum.
I really enjoy my 80 FI but if I ended up with an 82 FI, I know I would enjoy that as well.
Look at your choice carefully, if you have the bodywork skillset, a bit of surface rust could be delt with. I believe there are truely rust free examples out there, but look closely. Mechanically, the FI is great. If there are issues the members here can help get you sorted, and the car is usually fairly reliable after that.Lots of parts available.
Where abouts do you hang your hat?

Go with the 80' FI. We don't need anymore 82' groupies running around

Right. Too many '82s spoil the lot.

awww... CHA-eeze! now you've gone and poked the bear again.
stay away from the '82s; we gotta nuff of them floatin' 'round here now!
in the long run, you'd be much happier with a good old-fashioned carbureted two litre, sans EGR equipment

There's not enough difference between the 80 FI and 81-82 to even worry about. They are all basically the same. If you really want to have fun though, I'd go with the early model carbed cars. ....of course, that's just my humble opinion.

Denise, how do you find you can be humble with gold carburators? Theres nothing humble about early cars. They are the best.

Yeah, maybe "humble" isn't quite the right word to describe me.

try demure... that sounds better, but just as unfitting.
the quirks with the Fiat F.I. cars is the owner base. give me carbs, man, carbs.

Anything quirky??? If it weren't for quirky, this forum wouldn't exist. Thank god I found it!
Re: FI 80' vs. 81' vs. 82' any quirks?
Why settle for one or the other? Just do like I do and have 2 (or at the moment 3)! One carb and one FI (actually 2 FI at the moment).

Ther are 2 kinds of Fiat owners. Those fortunate enough to own a 82.....and those that wish they did!

EXACTLY, just buy a dual IDF manifold and install one IDF carb and one throttle body. inject-o-carb!

Craig,
I thought you had finally "seen the light" since you are keeping the carb'ed 77, but it sounds like you are still under the influence of the FI Kool Aide.
I think Matt came up with the perfect compromise to settle the debate for good though.
