I used to drive my 71 spider from los angeles to selma oregon on a regular basis to visit my dad from time to time. The only problem i ever had was bad fuel that clogged the filter in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. Something like a little over 700 miles in 12 hrs non stop. Left friday at 5 after work and got the sat morn at 5 when he opened his restaurant ate and went to bed.
Chris is making progress slowly, its gonna be nice to have an 850 on our runs.

I just took the flashlight out to the garage to check out a couple of parts motors that I have, and the 843cc motor has the mentioned flat pistons, while the 903 motor has what I believe to be Borgo 10/1 pistons. Too bad they're in bad shape... I identified the Borgo pistons from one of the John Edwards videos from YouTube. I've become a bit of a fan of this guy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuBf3OpC0S0

His machine shop offers a custom carb intake that allows the use of a DGV/DCD style carb, and he also offers a regrind of the stock cam to performance spec for $95 bucks. The carb intake is $250, and both are on my wish list. I have a lot of 850 parts if you need something....

The 850 has a joint lighter because on my budget I couldn't afford both cigarettes and Fiats... In my past 5 years without cigarettes, I've bought 3 Fiats and one Alfa. 'Nuff said.

Ya lol were all pretty consistant when it comes to low budgets anf fiats. I'm only 23 and prokl y on my 10th fiat.lol. How can I identify my engine as a 903 vs 843. Maybe the I'd numbers in block. Thabx for the reply. This 850 is all.new to me.in usually just into the 124s. As far as parts I can think of a few . Where are u located?

The 903 engine is often identified by it's bolt pattern on its water pump where it attaches to the motor. If the water pump base has three bolts it's either an 817 or an 843. Four bolts indicates a 903, which was introduced on the '68 Spiders and Sport Coupes. The 903 also has the "100GBC" designation stamped on its block down by the fuel pump, and on the exhaust side of its head. For that matter, the 903 will have 100GBC marked on it's water pump fan. The others will be stamped "100G", the G meaning "Grande", which seems tongue in cheek, but it's a reference to the 100 designation given to the Fiat 600 engine that came before it. Ya know; yours looks like it may be a second series Spider, which might have the 100GBS designation, which also denotes 903cc/52HP. I'm not much of an authority on this car, but as I type this, I'm recalling all that I've read about them...

I'm here in Eugene, Oregon where I'm a full time University of Oregon student (currently in a large lecture hall awaiting a hugely boring Saturday seminar on crisis intervention or some-such happy shite ). My first 850 was a '69 Sport Coupe, which is exactly the same car as my current '68 Spider, other than its Bertone body. They strangely even smell the same. I shouldn't have sold it, but I didn't have the space to give it what it needed at the time. It sold on Craig's List in under 12 hours, and my Sport Coupe was replaced by a very decent carbureted Alfa Romeo Spider inside of 24 hours. That was a cool day... Cool as the Alfa is, my '69 124 Spider has proven itself faster and more free-reving.

I believe I have a complete engine's worth in parts and other misc. bits, so don't be shy if you need something (like a starter). My god, this seminar makes me want to stab myself in the throat, but as I look out across this terraced lecture hall, I see that while I keep getting older, college girls stay the same age...

No the master cylinder on an 850 is quite a bit smaller, partially due to the rear drum brakes and the much smaller bore a wheel cylinder has relative to a rear caliper (less fluid to move).

Yours is a "late" two circuit master cylinder versus the pre 68 single circuit design.

Ebay is wrong or at least that auction is wrong.

[Edit]

I found the ebay auction, that is the early single circuit MC and not what you can use.

I would go with one of our vendors for this part, likely cheaper and the correct part for your year. Vicks has it for under 40 bucks, I suspect Midwest, Chris and the others have them as well for similar prices.
