general horror stories...

Post by mbouse »

the front end of my Spider looks like it is on stilts..pulled the engine and transmission this weekend with the help of POPE and Lee Putman and a few others (many cheerleaders). Even though it was a skin cracking 9°F outside, my heaters got the garage to above 60°F inside. we eventually peeled back to shirt sleeves for the afternoon's adventures. even the timid requested i shut of the heat sources for a spell.

my friend with the desire to buy a Spider was there to watch and learn. and, even after we were done... he still wants a Spider. I guess he REALLY got burned with the MGB experience.

also pulled the dashboard. YIKES  Musta been the beginning of the week in Turin when they hit my car's wiring.. i think i could gain about 50# in weight reduction just by shortening all those wires...eee gads!

top of the cross member showed significant rubbing, even though the engine mounts did not look extensively distorted, or the bottom of the oil pan still had a full set of paint. hmm.. pull the tranny from the engine and WHAT??  the bottom two tranny mounting bolts are missing??? one of the starter bolts is snapped off INSIDE the bell housing hole?? and the machine screw at the front of the starter is also missing??

any one wanna say YA-YA-YIKES ??

Sounds like a great day...with a few surprises! Now you should feel justified in going this far, since you found so many problems to fix. Get crackin' - it will be spring before you know it!

I was thinking about power washing my bottom as well, but was going to build a steep ramp (watching the rear end, of course) to run it up on.

I would really love to see that. Picks please. Their's no room to get a power washer wand under there. Besides, you may blow a hole in the floor pans.

John, you can be the cameraman. since there is no room for me and a power washer, i am sure there will be plenty-0-space for me, the power washer, you and a camera !!

I power washed the colored cement arround my pool a few years back. You can still see where I started and quickly learned just how powerfull those things are. I don't think I will be doing any more power washing. EVER!
