Before I get too much on this post, I'm looking for a photo of a Spider in Rosso Cherry (37F). I know that there are quite a few red Spiders here, but I want to see what that particular shade looks like. I have a new project in that color, you see.
Last week I bought a 1980 FI without an engine, hoping to salvage a few parts, but to my delight it is essentially rust free (but for surface stuff here and there). That seems to be rare around here, so I'm going to put this one back together. I pulled the seats, carpets and rocker panels. Even the underside is excellent. It's much better than my driver, so this is the one...
Ironically, a few weeks ago I saw an ad for a free engine. I rushed out and got it, and was pleased that it was FI (my driver being an '81FI). So when I got this body last week, I half expected it to be the matching car to the engine. But no, just highly coincidental! So yesterday I pulled the 1.8 head from my '78 parts car and it will go on the "free" 2.0 FI engine before it goes into the '80. The new '80 body has an older differential, looks like a 4.1 and I'll add the very good transmission from the '78. If I can afford it, I'm going to add Mark Allison's street cams. I think it will be a nice combination, with a body that I am not wasting my efforts on fixing up.

Unless its been repainted or painted over that's the best looking driver's side floor pan I've ever seen, good find!
Edit: re-painted, the seat mounting towers should be black.

Launie - My car is Rosso Cherry, but it's 136F. Where did you get the code 37F?

Re: Rosso Cherry 136F Anyone?
Peter, I stand corrected; it is 136F. I'll look for a photo of your car, thanks.
Matt, that floorpan is definitely the original paint. Yes, I am surprised at the overall condition. A real find, especially in our climate.

Peter, of course I should have looked at your photobucket link Well, that really is a bright red, isn't it? I like it. Mine has an original light beige interior though. I might prefer your black interior. I'll have to take it one step at a time - paint and drive train - get it running and looking decent.
NitroDemon, those floor pans of yours look better than the same that are in my driver Spider! I can almost do the Fred Flinstone "engine" with mine Are you going to replace them or repair them. I still intend to fix up my driver Spider. It's getting a multi-stage paint job these days.
These wheels (on the "new" 1980 Spider) are apparently not the best quality, but they sure are in superb condition. They do have 205/60 13 tires on them, and I have checked the bead width as best I can with calipers (with the tires on) and it looks like they are 7.5 inch wide rims! I understand most of these are not that wide. Does anyone have a set and know the width?

Hey Launie... Nice Bod... the car that is
That looks like a very doable project without breaking the bank.
You'll like the bump in power with the 1800 head. If it needs an exhaust system, I think Jim in C. River took his to Midas. See if they can adapt a 2" to it. I'm going to chop at the collector where it is about 2" in diameter and add a flange there and 2" back from there.
I have some extra FI bits if you need them.
Chris

Re: Rosso Cherry 37F Anyone?
I plan on cleaning them up as best I can and repairing the small hole I have that is just out of view in the picture (under the drivers seat) And give it all a good coat of some good Anti Rust paint. Everything else is perdy solid aside from that one hole that I should just be able to chop out and patch.
