Clainging noise

Post by katsi »

Can anyone describe the symptoms of a bent valve. I got everything back together and turned the motor by hand a few times and everything seemed to be smooth. I turned the key and she fired right up. Was actually running smoothly except for a clanging noise. Whatever it is it's not good. This is after a broken belt (it broke when I tried to start it and it had a small washer jamed between the belt and gear so it was not running when it broke) but, it's a 2000 so it's suppposed to be a non interferience motor right? Anyway, she will fire right up with just the slightest turn of the key but it sounds like my old scout when the tappet went bad. BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Did you properly align the auxiliary pulley to the 1:00 - 2:00 o'clock position when you replaced the timing belt? Need a bit better descriptipon to really understand what you are hearing.

To say that the auxilary shaft is out of wack is not a bad stab at it. I kinda thought that myself. Problem is, my auxilary pulley has a few different markers. Which one should I use?

There should be a timing hole drilled through the aux. sprocket. Line that hole up with the bolt that retains the spring for the belt tensioner, or 1 o'clock.

The lobe on your aux shaft may have mangled the rod bolt on your #2 rod. I don't know if this would cause an issue.
