Re: Photos of where you work...
This is the 7th snow storm we've had this season. It snowed all day and most of last night here. The only saving grace was it never did get below freezing so the double digit amount we should have ended up only being 3 or 4 inches. Craig, ever see it snowing this hard in 40 degree weather?

Go figure - I buy a new snowblower this season and all the snow goes south.ga.spyder wrote:George,

Too funny, I had a post but thought better of it and deleted it.mbouse wrote:go ahead, Karl. tell'em what its like to live right off the coast of Lake Michigan.

I do love the idea of 7 storms. That sounds like last week... Ok the last two weeks of weather combined.
I guess there is a reason I have real winter tires mounted on a second set of rims...
One of my coworkers is down in North Carolina at one of our factories, he said they had closed school early and sent a picture of the accumulation there: a half an inch of snow. Half an inch! The whole office was rolling on the floor over that.

Re: Photos of where you work...
my kids laugh at me when i tell them the winter storm stories from my youth. they grew up here in mid-michigan..two hours from the Lake. those two hours are substantial; they've never seen the snow i experienced when i was their age.
i grew up in St. Joe, literally across the street from the lake. "snow days" were days when you could not see out the front window because of the drift blocking the view. when you opened the back door (always swung inward), snow was waist deep at the doorway. you had to lift the dawg up that high to let him out to pee. those storms happened at least once per year. you were excused from school for a day or two while you shoveled out to the street. "snow days" meant work!
when we moved to the 'burbs, the intensity changed a might. we routinely shoveled the driveway of knee deep snow every day after school. by the end of January, our biggest concern became what to do with all the snow, since we couldn't throw it high enough anymore to reach the top of the pile. City streets became impassible except for one-way traffic, and parking at the "curb" was illegal for about two months. snow plows did not slow down or swerve for stranded or illegally parked vehicles.

Yep, that's how it is down here. The snow is wet, the people don't know how to drive in it, and schools, churches and businesses close up tight. Did your coworker also tell you it's best to stay away from grocery stores when there's a threat of snow? It depends on how much is expected as to whether we have a 1, 2, or 3 loaf alert. That's how many loaves of bread you need to buy to sustain you until it's safe to go back outside. All the milk and bread are cleaned out before every snow storm.kmead wrote: One of my coworkers is down in North Carolina at one of our factories, he said they had closed school early and sent a picture of the accumulation there: a half an inch of snow.
