Headlights acting up
Headlights acting up
Started my 124 Spider up after a few months of sitting and was checking everything out. Turned on the headlights and they did not work. With the headlight switch in the on possition and headlights out I checked the wipers, and as soon as the wipers went on the headlights came on. Strange, but now everything works as it should. Problem will not repeat. Has this has happened to anyone else or does someone have an idea where to start looking. My 72 does not have the ground pods like the later model Spiders so we can rule that out. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Re: Headlights acting up
just because the ground pods are absent, i would never rule out inadequate grounds. any electrical circuit in an auto is highly susceptible to dirty, loose, or bad grounds. in fact, it is the first and easiest thing to check.
since both lights are equally affected, if it were a normally wired vehicle, we'd be looking at two different grounding locations and two different fuses. commont point is then the dash switch and the column switch. since you already stated the issue was affected by the wipers... i wound suspect the column switch (common to both headlights and the wipers).

Re: Headlights acting up
since the car has been sitting for awhile, I'd start at the fuse box and check for loose or corroded fuses. I wouldn't worry about grounds until I was sure I had power to those parts
