Did I make a bad choice

Post by itsaspider »

About two weeks ago I purchased my first spider 124. It's a 1978 with approx 83,000 miles. Was repainted just once. Overall pretty good condition. But now I found an 1981 2000 spider with only 24,000 miles and in excellent condition. Any suggestions!!!???

Are they the exact same price? If they are and assuming that they have equal amounts of rust, I would say you screwed the pooch. But, you can not go on with that mentality. Their is ALWAYS a better deal out there than the one you got. If you already purchased the car, then that is now your baby. Unless you want to buy the other and have 2 or sell the former to make up. If you constantly chase your tail on this - well, what do you do with it once you caught it? Go with what you got and make it the most awesome spider that you possibly can. It don't matter what anyone else has or says. It's yours so roll with it. Have fun.

24K miles? Was it in a bubble? Are you positive it is not 124K, 224K miles?? :P

I would suggest to buy the second one and then decide which one to keep if you only want one... and sell the other one.

How much money are we talking about here. What's the difference in price between the two?

He should buy them both and then sell them so he can get an 82 and be ultra cool with the rest of the 82 club 8)

Gunsmith hit the bullseye! :D But if he keeps it, an 81 is almost an 82 so he could be semi-cool. :)

At least all us 82 owners are humble
Need more details...big diff in the 78 and a 81.The 78 isthe most anemic performing Spider w/ carb, the 81 is a fuel injected, better performing car. What is the price diff? Can you afford both?

Be glad its not an 82. The steering wheels of the 82's have a low quantity of Thorium 891 in them, which wont hurt you but it does have a strange side effect though. It makes the owner think their cars is better than everyone elses.

Dont double guess your purchase becuase everytime you look you will find a better deal

Same thing happened to me. Purchased a 81 with 81,000 miles on it and started restoring it. A couple months later found a 1980 one owner Spider with 46,000 original miles on it for my daughter. She decided she wants an auto. Now I have two :D How much is the second spider? Can you afford another one? If so two are better than one. I might have a buyer for your first spider

This is how we ended up with three spiders, for two drivers.

Ok, here's the skinny....and thanks for everybody's input - I appreciate it.
I purchased the 1978 for $5,000
The owner of the 1981 is asking $6,200 but he agreed to take $5,700.
I also tried to track the title history and the mileage seems to be ok. I test drove it this am and really liked how it drove compared to the 1981.

Thanks NJ. I decided to purchase the '81. Picking it up in a few hours. Let me know if you have a buyer that is interested in the 1978. If so, i can send you pix.

Now that's a Spider man! Congratulations on the second Spider. Hurry up and take pictures of both of them in your garage while you can, as you can see from the other multi Spider owners it does look pretty cool. Now that you have your 81 you're just one model year away from true bliss. Now the 81 will bring you much joy as you drive it to look at the various 82's waiting on your purchase. :P

Another two Spider owner :D I lied about having two Spiders. I forgot to tell you about the parts Spider. So I acyually had three. But alas the parts Spider went to the big crusher. Now I'm looking for another parts spider. Post some pics and I will tell the prospective buyer about it. He is here in NJ. George
