Another signal option for the bumper-less crowd

Well I am nearing the end of my bodywork stage on my re-paint. I deleted the bumpers and went on a quest to see what I could come up with. I wanted to go with a round light, but all the 4" ones seemed to be a little too big. I went to truckers supplies a Harley dealership, (those are just a bit too small). Then I went to a Japanese bike place and told them what I was trying to do. They went back to their "obsolete" area and came back with some stuff to look through. What I cam up with is the following...
It is a 80% round signal from a mid 70's KZ 1000. I had templates with me so I knew I could make them work. I used the original signals from the bumpers, drilled a hole with a hole saw for the light to pass through. Secured the new lens to the old one with a small nut/bolt and sealed it all up with clear silicone. The bumper shock holes needed very little modification to work. The fit is almost perfect. There is a gap about 1/8th inch on right and left side and no gap vertically. I made it fit very snug. I don't have them permanently installed as of yet but I don't see any issue in doing so.

Nice idea and I like how you used the existing lamp, clever! If it was mine and I was doing the body work I think I would just fill in all the holes and run some small lights up in the grille or size the hole to fit whatever light you may want. I think a flush mounted like that you could not see the lens screws would be nicer too. You could find a light and tack weld post on the back of the valance to secure the light that way. Maybe one day soon Ill be there. Keep up the good work and whatever you like is the right thing to use.

I think ideas like that are what it's all about.That is a pretty ingenious solution to one of the most discussed subjects on this site.Nice job...and its in my price range!!

maybe this is a stupid question, why not retrofit a set of 74 and earlyer turnsignal assy's, they match the contour of the body, if you are doing bodywork anyway. just my 2 cents worth . and you can get clear and mixed color euro lenses.

Bumperless look with turn signals that I think look period correct, complete with chrome frames - never understood the 'modern upgrade' look for bumperless turn signals.

I kinda get that you have a passion for this however there is really no point in bringing back every Zombie thread on the topic from the past 5 to 10 years replying with the same post and photo. If there was no recent discussion to add too or if you have a specific question about something from the distant past that is another matter.

Is that your car in the picture? Could you add to a recent thread on where you found the lights that you liked and how you went about installing them?
