Re: 1971 fiat spider, 1608,
My battery sits in the engine bay and I was wondering if it is ok to run the new brown wire from the battery (instead of starter) to the ignition switch? Does it matter?
Also, I have a free terminal at the bottom of the ignition switch and two at the top. Which one is the un-used #30 terminal? I see no markings. I think it is the bottom, but unsure.

Re: Brown wire fix question
Shouldn't matter if you run it from the battery or the starter as they are electrically the same.
As for the switch post, it probably is labeled in little tiny print but without either a kleeg light and contortionist manuvers or the switch out of the car good luck reading them. BUT, you could disconnect the wiring harness and using a multimeter on the switch posts look for the spare that is electrically connected to the existing brown wire!

whichever is most convenient for your situation... battery, alternator or starter. it's all good.
