Great story guys! Wish I could have been there! So Denise spins out on a parade lap at Road Atlanta and then blows up the Lemons motor...maybe Amber needs to do all the driving

We'll get a better pic of the award when Kevin gives it back. This past weekend was also Kevin and his wife's wedding anniversary so he needed proof that we were all actually racing. Craig also skipped out on his wife's birthday and will probably also need proof.

Re: The LeMons saga...weekend recap
this is getting off topic but, i have a 300zx that i could buy from my company for 100.00 and build a car. or another fiat could enter the mix. im intreagued. i might even us a scorpion..... hmmm
again im so proud of your efforts. i do realise what it takes to pull off a race weekend. so much effort, so many things people who havent raced have no idea to think about. like bread, beer, spare engines...

Re: The LeMons saga...weekend recap
Go for it, Beek! That 300zx ought to be a better car than a rusted out old Fiat. We didn't know what to expect when we got there. We had it in the back of our mind it would be more of a demolition derby than a real race, and the last one standing would win, but it was a very well organized event, with safety the utmost concern with the organizers. People were penalized heavily for rough driving and, during the entire weekend, there was not one single accident involving more than one car that I saw. The rule was 4 black flags and you pack up and go home. We were well on our way to the 4th for various reasons and something we need to work on next time we go out. Ron has even shown an interest in racing in this event and the boy has never turned right in a racecar during his entire racing career.

I have gotta agree w/ Denise. The Z would be a much better platform than the Fiat.No matter how well we can sort out the 124,it will never be competitive for a win.You need a more modern car with better power and easy access to parts. One thing though...the fun factor in the Fiat is really high!!

Well, you guys certainly participated in the true spirit of the race. Sounds and looks like there were a lot of >$500 cars out there.

Fantastic! Good times for sure I cant believe you spent probably 8 hours drive time to get another motor and carry on! Dedication for sure. Not to mention that engine hoist are hard to move on wet grass and soggy soil! Thanks for the update and which I was there, bread or no bread.

Man, you don't know how hard it was moving that hoist through the sand. It was probably the hardest part of the entire engine replacement!SLOSpider wrote:Fantastic! Re: The LeMons saga...weekend recap
As Craig mentioned I made the relatively short drive (about 120 miles) over to the track on Saturday with my two sons. I felt bad frankly that I wasn't prepared to pitch in when I got there. Denuse, Ron, Kevin, Craig, et al made a heroic effort to represent the brand!
There is no question that to be competitive you have to have a ringer. There were lots of cars that clearly were worth much more than the $500 limit, BUT, the rules allow things like GIFTS to not count. So if someone happened to GIVE a full blown Guy Croft engine or some such we might have a chance? Having said that, there simply insn't any substitute for 20 years of advancements in engines and suspension out on the track. I mean Miatas and 944 Porsches? Give me a break!
The event is a wild hoot! Lots of fun and good natured people with almost all in the right spirit: fun and mutal respect / help.
One last note, no way you want Amber behind the wheel! Unlike the go kart track, in the race they black flag you if you intentionally "persuade" a competior out of your way at the end of the straight to gain the race line. I'm still stiff from the jolt she gave me as she sent me into the weeds! You go girl!!!!
Craig and Denise, sign me up for pit and wrench support in September!

One more note: I am glad I brought both boys with me as it caused me to bring the family "haul asser" versus Luigi (80 FI Fiat). I can easily envision Denise and Craig promising me "we'll put you engine right back after the race"!
