clean over flow bottle

Post by narfire »

All the spare overflow bottles I had were rather dingey looking things (did install Marks stainless on my 80) . Wondering how to clean up one for installation in a 72 and thought about the merits of Cascade..(cleans the coffee carafe really well) While the wife was still at work, I filled the kitchen sink with hot water and a few tablespoons of auto dishwashing cleaner(cascade). Put the overflow bottle in and made sure inside and out was contacting the solution. Let sit while consuming a bottle of the homemade wine with the neighbor, and before long the overflow bottle was clean. A bottle brush for the inside and a light scrub of the outside and good to go.
Anyone have anything similar? Wonder if letting it sit in a mild solution of bleach would help as well.

A flexible bottle brush and some detergent cleaned mine up pretty nice to. I don't think you'll ever get the yellowing out of the plastic though.

Fill the tank with sand and water then shake like mad. Just make sure to rinse it out really well.
I found the results impressive with an old yellowing bottle.
