Taking Mum For A Drive

Post by courtenay »

My Mum called this morning and asked me if I'd take her to see her older sister who was recovering from a fall. I said sure. She said, "Since it's such a nice day, why don't you bring your Fiat?" I thought that was a great idea. After all, how many 61 year old guys get to take their 85 year old Mums for a drive in their 30 year old Fiat?
Must have looked pretty funny to others on the road - two white haired oldies in an oldie!
BTW - Mum loved the ride...

I remember trading cars with my mom 35 years ago. I wanted her pinto wagon to go climbing for a week or so and she got to drive my 70 spider to her tennis games. I guess she was about 45 at the time though and we were such good kids , she did'nt have any grey hair...yet. Took her for a spin in mine last year and she loved it as well.

Mine enjoyed a trip to the mountains in the Fiat with a picnic basket last year. When this heat wave is over, we'll do it again.

I actually got my first fiat spider from my mum. It was hers, I drove it once and never gave it back. Almost aquired a completed car recently but fell thru at the last minute. My mum thought I had it and wanted me to get my girl and make a run to palm springs for a visit.

I cant' remember if you were here during the summer of 08 or not Bruce, but my mother was visiting us here in California from Washington state. She was scheduled to go home about the same time as the Mirafiori Oregon campout, which I had already planned to drive up for. So I asked her if she was up to a 1200 mile trip with a stop off in Oregon for the weekend. She was 80 at the time, but went on the trip with me and held up like a trooper!
Here she is at the Oregon campout in the pink top, white pants with Alvon's wife Mareen.

It was a great time together that I'll always consider some of the best time I ever had with Mom.

I think this is the only time I've had my mom in my car. She said she enjoyed it...
