had an intermittant noise out of the engine area the past few weeks. I had bought a stethascope a month or so ago and thought well lets see what the noise is. Intake side ... sounds good I guess, exhaust side.. louder tic tic tic.. Pulled the cover and found I could hardly get a 16 thou feeler guage in there, really had to push. Re shimmed to 17-18 and for what ever the reason is quieter now.
Today another noise... out comes the stethascope.. valves good, down around the spark plugs, nothing different ,tried the water pump... what a racket.. Shut the enging off, put a light on it and torqued the pump drive wheel. I could tilt it 1/8-1/4 inch. not good, put a light on it and I'm missing a bolt and the other two were loose
Yes a long screwdriver works but for $15.00 I like the stethascope. Cool tool.
The other I use an awfull lot is the benchgrinder with a wire wheel, Cleans things up real quick.
