Spider Attire

Post by DUCeditor »

As I completed the work that allowed me to get my `77 Spider back on the road last week I posted some pics of the car to share my excitement with friends on a Ducati motorcycle forum. Along with the "oohs" and "ahs" came several comments of what I should wear when driving it. I suppose not unexpectedly the suggestion were all for what seems to be to be pure brit: Flat hats, cravots and scarves. (With a pipe in my mouth one suggested!).

Frankly I do like that look, but don't think it quite fits the car. It is not British, it is Italian. So I was wondering what the good folks on this forum, who share my Spider passion, wear when they drive (especially in cool weather).

I was told years ago I should color match my attire to my car, so I have a burgandy. light weight jacket specifically for cruising the mountain roads on crisp days. Other than that, whatever I have on at the time is good enough for me. I prefer the wind in the hair, carefree look to the stodgy look of a Brit car owner. Of course, I'm probably not the best one to give advice on proper attire as anyone that knows me could tell you.

Don,

I don't think there is a type of attire. At the Larz show a few weeks ago, people wore Fiat Shirts and Hats if they had them. And whatever was clean if they didn't. I will wear one of my Fiat hats, if I am driving off the highway. And will wear a FIat shirt if I am going to a car show.

In cool weather I like to wear my Nacho Libre wrestling mask. It goes with the theme of my car and keeps my face from getting chilly  .

I like to wear a Hawaiian shirt just because they are as colorful as the Fiat. Other than that I like the totally wind blown look, wrinkled clothes from hours behind the wheel. 8) Anything is fine just as long as you are comfortable as you are Zipping through the twisties. :D

I like my karting jacket, with its roomy armholes, longer sleeves and velcro neck closure. Doesn't flap around in the open cockpit at highway speeds. Layer(s) underneath for as low as you like, temperature-wise.

Bernie, I miss you guys in DCFiats but I don't miss that DC weather. In Southern CA, it's "t-shirts, cut offs and a pair of ....." errr....

The only thing that I like to make sure to wear when driving my Fiat are my brown tinted aviator sunglasses. I feel like it goes well with the car. Otherwise just whatever I'm wearing for the day.

In cool weather a hoodie, otherwise whatever I'm wearing. I do have to watch the shoes with my size 13 feet, boots and sandals tend to get stuck on the center console.

My spider has blue interior and is a smokey gray, so I tend to rock a dark blue blazer and a ball cap when its cold/cool, but always these puppies. Goggles?!!

A bottle of red in one hand and a good looking girl in the other.

more importantly, a spider should be driven in the mountains or oceanside to be proper..
