New Spider in Newburgh IN

Post by iaexpat »

Just joined the forum. I have a 1981 Spider metallic copper (although it looks more brown that copper). Pretty nice car but I need to get seat belts in the back seat for my kid. Any folks in southern indiana?

Welcome to the forum! That thing behind the front seats is not legally a seat. The car is legally a two-seater. Fiat calls it a "package shelf". Having said that, most auto parts stores carry some sort of generic lap belt. Enjoy the ride!

I bought my 3 point belts here. Inexpensive and good selection.

I've read that the area behind the the front seats was reclassified. My "79" had seat belts. Even though there isn't much room, I have a small child so having seat belts in the back would allow all of us to ride together. Thanks for the info though.

Hello fellow newbie.

The driver or passenger would have to have very short legs to allow anyone to set in the back.

Good morning,

I have a question for Foster48X. You stated that you got your replacement seat belts from Gotbelts.com. Are you happy with them? Can you help me with a little information about them? I need replacements for my 1981 Spider and I'm glad to see a link posted. What style did you buy and do they work okay with the shoulder belt holder on the back . I know I've asked a lot of questions, but your answers will help me make a decision. Thanks for your help.

Steve,
Here are links to the ones I put in my 80 FI.

Along with another site (seatbeltplus) that sells the same item for about the same price. Actually I think I got mine from seatbeltplus and not gotbelts but i can't remember now. Both are almost exactly the same. 3 point 133" retractable belt w/ a 12" contoured sleeve. Don't worry about the harware kit they offer mine installed fine without it. The only thing you'll have to do is cut the shoulder attachment ring off since its not used. Mine work great and I've been really happy with them.
