I have had a problem with unlocking the doors on my 76 Spidy. It seems ok to lock it, but I can't turn the key far enough to unlock it... or break the key. I have thought than as my Spidy is not original, perhaps a power lock setup would be good. Any advice ????

You may want to spray some graphite in the lock and spray the assembly inside the door panel with white lithium grease to help free it up.

I have sprayed the locks well, but no luck....perhaps there is an adjustment on the lock at the back....

I'm not sure why you'd want to lock the doors to your Spider. There's no reason to have an expensive stereo in a roadster, so what's to steal? Anything of value goes in the trunk when you're not in the car. And a box-cutter will open any convertible top, costing you hundred$ to replace ... or a busted (unavailable new) side window.

Hey Baz, I took mine apart to see if I could fix it and it wasn't hard at all to see the problem. It could be something as simple as a misalignment of parts.

Yep...I'll leave it unlocked...I once drove my 1969 Pontiac GTO conv. to a drug store and locked the door with the top down...jesus...you would think I would learn !!

As mentioned a few screws (phillips) on the door panels and arm rest and a clip on the window crank and access to the inside of the door is great.

I think a point may be being missed here; some people just want everything working correctly on their car. I for one never lock my car, but I fixed the lock just because it drove me crazy knowing it didn't work. Anal? No, I wouldn't say so. (But I may be the only one who wouldn't.)

Since I'm removing my handles. I better leave the window open. I'd hate t have my top cut. I guess I better not leave anything in it that others would want. I'm just like you. Everything should work even if you don't use it.

Not to hard to fix if you take the door panel off. Probably a pushrod fell off or something simple. But I agree, there is nothing wrong with having all your parts working. So feel free to fix it. I lock my car and have never had anyone take a knife to it because it was locked. Good luck

Have to with the posters that wouldn't bother fixing the locks since the top should be more valuable than anything that you leaving inside; I don't even know if the lock works on my car! I put in a decent stereo but made sure it has a removeable face plate.
