It looks like a new convertible Bug. Great, if you're into that kind of thing.
If something like that is released, though, you can bet there would be a resurgence in interest for the classic Spider.

I didn't think it looked like a bug at all. In fact, I would have never even thought of a vw bug and i still don't see a vw bug. Its just a drawing. More or less it looked like an alfa spider with the headlights cut back at the top more than it looks like a bug. Looks pretty nice. You won't get any complaints from me. :D

It's just the way the body wraps around the back by the tire that reminds me of a bug. It's just a drawing, though, so maybe the real thing will look different.

Funny, I see what your saying about how the body drops off behind the rear wheel.
I was looking at how the fender flare areas are black like an abarth and how the front turn signals are mounted just how all the bumperless fiats are mounted. I guess we all "see" differently.

You are all "RONG" wrong! It looks like a Mini Cooper convertible with a little slant to the hood. Why can"t they make a cool looking retro/updated version of the Spider like GM did with the Camaro and Dodge with the Challenger? If Honda and Mazda can make a decent looking Roadster why can't Fiat?

Fiat won't design a car specifically for the US until sales here prove it will sell. We're going to get cars that are successful in other parts of the world until the US market is a winner for Fiat. The demise of the 124 Spider was due to lagging sales in the US, the only real market for the car.

And this is what it will look like by the time Washington gets done with it.
Sreamlined and aerodynamic for maximum fuel economy. Front air bag detects pedestrians and automatically deploys if they get too close while the vehicle is in motion.

Ferrari engine in a Kia body...oh I can't wait for the new "Fiat" jokes from the American market.

Maybe because its a Fiat 500 and not a Fiat 124. I think they did a pretty good job making a cool retro 500. The new spider is just another variant of the 500 model.

Big wheels, and low profile tires have never appealed to me. Maybe I am missing something here, but what is it with the big wheels? Their cost is at a premium, and then you have to drive like your grandmother to avoid dinging the rims at the slightest little pothole or bump. The old 500's and 600's were cute little practical cars. I immediately loved the first one that I saw. I just don't get that feel to this one.

I think it looks pretty cool. Big sidewalls give lots of flex; not good for high speed cornering but they do provide a cushy ride.
I'm just happy there are still corporate suits considering sports cars and not just econo-boxes
