Automatic slipping
After replacing the AFM (thanks George) and transmission modulator, it is now clearer what is happening when driving my "82 AT Spider. If I go around a 90 degree turn in 1st or 2nd at anything other than very slow speed, the tranny slips completely. No slipping going straight forward or reverse. Any insights?

Re: Automatic slipping
sounds like low fluid, or a filter that has come loose inside the pan allowing the pump to suck air on turns

Thanks Mark,
I will do a proper check of the fluid level. As far as the filter issue goes, unless it is immediately obvious upon dropping the pan, I will probably have to take this to a tranny shop. I have learned here that it is a GM TH180, same guts as a Chevette.

Re: Automatic slipping
Again, Thanks Mark,
Originally, I had checked the AT level in the garage with the car off, like checking the engine oil. I vaguely recalled ATs needed the engine in drive or something to check. Well, well, reading the manual (the directions when all else fails) I learned to drive it 6 miles, put in Park or Neutral, check while idling. It was 2 quarts low! Drives great now. Thanks for heading me in the right direction.
