Spare tire mount in a 82?

Post by pooldoctorstl »

I guess the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked, so here goes.......How does the spare tire mount in a 1982 Spider? Mine doesn't have the piece welded in the bottom of the spare tire well with the threaded hole in it, there is nothing there. It is all original paint and no evidence that anything has been removed. I have looked for pictures of another like it but can't find any.

And what does the original jack look like? I have a red scissors jack but I don't think it is original.

Thanks for any help or pictures. I can also post pics tomorrow of what mine looks like if needed.

Neither of my 1982s have evidence of any kind of spare tire hold down bracket. One has 54K mi, the other has 87K.
Here is a picture of one of my original jacks.

I don't think there was a spare tire mount in the newer models. My 1981 was very original,
unmolested (not anymore  ) and complete and there is now evidence of a tire mount.
I wanted to post a photo of my jack bud I am still working on my photo posting skills

No mounting spike on an '81 and it came with a scissors jack ( same setup as in the photo ).

2ndwind, tobi, and adrians - THANKS!!! My 74 had the hold down and so does the 70 I just sold, so I figured the 82 had something to secure the tire, but obviously not. My jack and tools also look like those in the picture except my jack is red, so I guess I have the right stuff. Thanks again.
