Filling the transmission

Post by digitech »

I think this has been asked before but with my memory..... Can the transmission be filled from the shifter housing? I ask because I'm getting ready to drop my engine/tranny back into the car and if I can't fill through the shifter then I may prefill, at least partially, before I install. I hate laying under the car and using the bottle/pump method.

If its out of the car then it should be a snap. You can fill it through the regular fill hole and slightly over fill it. Then when its in the car and the oil has time to settle, then remove the plug and the extra will drain out to he proper level then re-install the plug.

Yeah, that's probably what I'll do. I was just thinking, if I could fill through the housing, I could leave it dry until the engine/tranny is back in the car. That way I wouldn't have the potential for a mess during installation - I seem to remember some crazy angles when installing the complete ass'y.
