Wood dash question

Post by HuntingtonSpider »

I am currently in the process of reviewing my wood dash options for my 69, and was wondering if anyone knew the difference in dimensions in the wood dash between the 1400 series and later models. I was checking the one Mr. fiat sells on eBay but it says 70 and up, when I emailed them they said they weren't available for a 69. I just put on a dash cap and my original dash wont fit anymore without trimming a little down, so I figured I may be able to do that with the Mr. fiat ones if needed.
also, anyone have any experience with the quality of this item?

My other option is to have them custom made by Denise from this site which I would rather do as the price is right and I like the quality of work I've seen on this site, but I'm on the fence about waiting up too 2 months for them since the interior is basically done and I'm just waiting to put the dash back in so I can drive it again.

Trim the dash you have and drive, while waiting for the one you order to come through. You'll probably need to trim it and be sure it fits so you can use it for a template to send out for the new one, anyway.

I replaced the dash in my 74 with one of the "soft touch" reproductions from Mr. Fiat. Overall, I am very happy with it. Good quality for the money (it was half what it was going to cost to have my dash restored by "Just Dashes"). The only area that took a lot of trimming work was the vent holes.

I'll echo wikkid. The quality you'll get from Denise will be worth the wait. Just suffer will some ill fitting panels until then - if necessary (ie you have nothing there now), just cut some out of heavy cardboard to hold the gauges you must have (speedo, fuel, temp) and make do until you get the good stuff. If you cut corners now just to get something in faster, you'll regret it later when you realize a little patience would have netted you some beautiful custom dash panels.

just my $0.02.
