40K Milestone

Post by spidernut »

I've done it! I've finally hit the 40,000 mile mark on the odometer!!! It was fun to watch it roll over to 40K - something I don't get to see in my 09 Honda. Digital speedometers took all the fun out of watching the dials roll over. I should have planned to have my digital camera since this is original mileage. It would have been fun to document it.

I obviously don't drive it much. In the last 10 years, I've put about 800 miles per year on the clock. Of course, it also sat in storage for three of those years while stationed in Japan. Given what I've put into the car, that's about $.69 per mile driven - it has been worth it. It'll be fun to see if it takes another 10-12 years to hit 50,000 miles!

Wow 40k miles. That was a lifetime ago for me. Congrats on keeping such low mileage. I probably hit 40k in the late '80s. I wish I could roll back off a few of my 94k. It was a great 94k worth of memories though.

Over 268,000 miles on mine. My dad drove it off the showroom floor in 1968. He let me drive it when it turned over 100,000 miles in 1976. It turned over 200,000 miles some time in the 1980's. Then it was stored for 16 years with about 220,000 miles. I've put over 40,000 miles on it since getting it out of storage in 2003. My goal is to someday have the highest mileage one. Maybe my sons will drive it past 500,000 miles.

Guys, even classic car insurance gives you a couple of thousand miles a year, they're more fun while driving.

My first spider, bought new in 1973 had well over 150,000 miles on it and three teenagers learned how to drive in it, and it still had the origional clutch. Current spider, 1979 model bought to replace 1973 model, had around 90,000 when I got it in '96 and has about 130,000 on it now.
