Regarding the rear seal leak:
I had exactly that problem when I rebuilt my engine recently, despite taking great care in cleanliness, checking for any sharp edges, and lubrication of the seals before installation. It was difficult to determine if the leak was the rear seal or not, but after wiping it clean numorous times, then checking for where the leak originated, I was almost certain that it was the rear seal, so I pulled the tranny to get a better look, and sure enough it was the rear seal.

Just curious, where did your gasket set come from? Feel free to e-mail me privately if that is your preference.

Ace, have you replaced the seal again? Are you now leak-free back there? What did you do differently this time? Or have you abandoned your Spider for your new 500? :o

I pulled the transmission and replaced the seal. Didn't do anything differently. It's been dry ever since. It apparently was a bad seal. I studied it closely under a little magnification and I could see abnormalities in the rubber molded patterns in a couple of areas. That's probably what caused the leak. Bad quality seal. The vendor told me that they have had numerous problems with that supplier of engine gasket sets, and they don't sell them any more. It sure caused me a lot of aggravation.
