Thanks, Doug, for the stories about successful searches. I'm not in a huge hurry; I was just hoping to find something before the inevitable uptick in prices next Spring.
As I'm working it's hard to find the time to search out vehicles too far from Maine. I'm hoping that one will show up in New England over the next few months. I do have a lot of contacts in the Land Rover community through my magazine and at least those folks generally understand how to look over a used sports car. So if one comes up in another part of the country I might be able minimize my risk.
There is a chapter of FLU in Maine; while it might not be very active there is at least a contact person in a mainland town about an hour from where this island's ferry comes in. Maybe that person could help spread word of my interest.

Looking at a '70 124 Spider
Re: Looking at a '70 124 Spider
Plenty of people on here are willing to look at a local car. Just ask if something interesting turns up.
Re: Looking at a '70 124 Spider
Just thought I'd share that after I spoke with the owner of the Spider and told him that his price was simply too high for the condition of the car [and I noted your collective comments], I did not hear from him until an email arrived today. Now the price has been reduced further and the caveat "best offer" is now part of the equation.
He finally took the time with the help of a relative to get the electrical bits that didn't work, working properly. If the price falls appropriately there may be a Spider in my future yet.
