My problem with the big 3 is they've let the tail wag the dog with the unions becoming so powerful that they have driven the cost up. Top management greed hasn't helped the cause any. Now, can anyone tell me why an assembly line worker should make twice as much as a technician at a dealership does? The tech has to have continuous training and an actual brain to repair these cars.
I believe GM builds reliable cars and I know for a fact their customer goodwill policy was pretty generous in years past since I worked as a service advisor and warranty administrator for 20 years.
Ford may also have reliable cars. I have just never cared for a Ford. I did work for a Ford dealership and their goodwill policy is far more strict than GM. Their thoughts were if a dealer thought a customer deserved help with a repair, Ford expected the customer and dealer to pay a portion of the bill too.
