Right back to where we started After several hours of probing, removing and replacing vice versa of parts she still loses power, the tach jumps around and back fires when giving gas and getting over 3000 rpms. Sometimes she will be fine and cruise along at 120km/h etc . She is now in the garage awaiting service. Fingers crossed that it is something stupid or simple

I re read this quickly and may have missed some points.

Tac jumping often is related to bad connection feeding the coil. There is a radio noise capacitor connected to the coil and mounted to the heat sink. Have you removed that to see if it is intermittently shorting??

Have you disconnected the tac wire from the coil to see it that lets engine run better.

The pink wire to the coil originates at the ignition switch terminal 15/54. This terminal has power in start and run positions of the ignition switch. The section of the ignition switch (terminal 30/1) that powers 15/54 is fed from a black wire originating at the alternator output terminal. You could try installing a test ignition switch between the black wire and pink wire on the cars side of C31 the connector is about 6 inches behind the ignition switch. When the car is having problem turn test switch on to see if it cures problem. If it does chances are the ignition switch is bad.

Going on the assumption that I am not that strong in the electrical dept.......

Any chance you would have a pic of the radio noise capacitor I don't see it, or did you mean the module ?

Same question about the tach wire location/pic?
