That is a very proper assessment! They drive like an absolute dream, the perfect "Boulevard Ride" as Jay Leno likes to call it. Beautiful leather interiors, enormous glass area and great visibility, and very quiet too. The torque curve is really different on this '49 IL6 design than we expect or are familiar with, and it almost drives itself. You push the gas pedal down, and it doesn't seem to care too much how far you pushed it, it just does its thing and off it goes. But if you really step on it, it roars off with plenty of power.

But I would NEVER go anywhere near one of these if I was paying a dealer to maintain and repair it. I can't imagine the money that would flow out of the wallet. But at 3500 bucks, running great and nearly rust free, it is cheaper than most Spiders and makes a great hobby car and is really fun to take friends out in for dinner, etc.

Your boss had the right idea, buy (LEASE) it and drive it for a year or two and trade it in. That would save you a lot of financial hardship (other than the notorious depreciation!)

Fortunately many of the parts are available at the local auto parts store and not so expensive though there are exceptions. It also helps to find cheaper alternate parts that work and the forums help with that. Forums like FiatSpider.com make this hobby possible for us.
I think my 1985 Jaguar is at about the limit in modern complexity that I would want to work on.
