Did you hook up the wiring to the tranny for the third and fourth gear fuel emissions switch? You dont need it , but it can impact how the car runs if the system is not working properly.. How does it run in fifth gear? What is your fuel pressure? Have you set your timing correctly?

Thanks for the replies.

I did pull the carb apart again and noticed that my float measurement was off and cleaned that up. I also replaced the fuel filter as it was looking a bit scummy. The pump itself isn't particularly old, and I get fuel pumped up fast when I go to start. But it could very well have some issues from sitting.

The 32 ADFA has been cobbled together so it has been weighing on me that this is probably the main culprit. But I am very curious about the transmission pieces. I never got too much info about how all those smoke relays work out. We have pulled all the emissions stuff possible. Currently the catalytic converter is still on the exhaust, though I plan on redoing the exhaust before the next inspection. Otherwise I have pulled the air pump and EGR system, as well as all the extra vacuum lines and unneeded relays. But we did leave the ones connected on the transmission. Mainly because it is so painful to anything underneath.

The adjustments helped and third gear is a bit better, however power band only moved up a touch in the third gear range. Flat land running is not a big issue. Only large, or long grades, and fast take offs kill me. Really anything that needs the second barrel kills it.
