i raced for 3 complete seasons in the nascar winston racing series. competed at lanier speedway, peachstate speedwway, anderson motor speedway and livonia speedway. in 3 years i won 2 championships, finished 2nd in points 2 times and 1 3rd in points, won 52 features, averaged 45+ competitors weekly, yes i did race 2 times a week. used 5 124 coupes in the process. the pinto's and vw's had no idea what was beating them.
used a few combinations of motors depending on the year car ran as they had to be "stock". yes i played the rules to my advantage, as did all racers. we ran for the next few years in a modified division where we developed a 225hp 2.0
won a few races but it was a little harder competing with american iron and $$

Did you band and weld the standard Fiat steel wheels?

we had a few sets of widened fiat factory wheels, but a we talked diamond racing wheels to make us 5 sets of wheels with the fiat bolt pattern. which we ran after the rules were changed to allow aftermarket wheels.
