After some googling and searching of these forums, I still could not find a good answer to my question: is there another alternator that will bolt in the stock mounting places?
I have a dead alternator, on my 80 fiat 124. The cheapest i've found is about $220 bucks for a new fiat one. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any others that would bolt in. I know I can get an internally regulated 80amp alternator for like $60 bux, but looks like it would be a real pain to get it to mount.
Anyone found anything cheap that bolts in?

Re: Replacement Alternator
are you sure about that price? I haven't looked for a while, but I first knew I needed one a couple of years ago and looked then. I thought I was running across them for more like 70-100 bucks....
Re: Replacement Alternator
At IAP they want $214 + shipping and a $94 core charge.

Re: Replacement Alternator
How about a posting in "Parts Wanted" for an used OE replacement? They aren't that big or heavy, so shipping shouldn't be a problem.
Re: Replacement Alternator
check Matt Brannon or with Jon Logan, I bet both are a lot less if they have them.

I got a remanufactured one from Vicks Autosports last year for around $120. I think I sourced one from AutoZone also for around $90.

Re: Replacement Alternator
I checked AutoZone a few months ago and they quoted $71 for a rebuilt with a rebuild-able core. The trick is that they don't have one listed for a Fiat. I brought mine in and they cross-referenced the Bosch numbers from the blue tag. Just don't ask them to test one, they told me that both of mine were bad. I was skeptical so I took them to a local alt and starter shop and they tested them both as good. The newer of the two now resides on the right side of my 1600. Hope this helps.

Re: Replacement Alternator
Our site sponsor Mark Allison sells at 95 amp single wire replacement. I needed some extra instruction to install in my '76 to bypass the external reg and Mark helped me on the phone, twice. I think it was $175, a BIG upgrade over the (I think) 55 amp stock model.

I looked at the Autozone/Schuck's rebuild replacements and opted for the brand new one with no core Mark had.
Just my personal choice of course.
Good luck!!!

Re: Replacement Alternator
Damn it! If I would have known Mark had those upgraded alternators when I bought mine last September I would have picked one up from him for $175 instead of paying $120 for the refurbished one I got from Vick's. Actually the Vick's one cost me $145 because I had to replace the voltage regulator on it 2mo after the warranty expired. If I had to do it over again I would definitely spend the extra money and go with the upgrade.

Any reviews on this alternator? I'll probably be in the market immediately, and I'd love to hear some first-hand experience with it?mPedro08 wrote:Our site sponsor Mark Allison sells at 95 amp single wire replacement. Re: Replacement Alternator
I don't know about the one Mark is selling (all good reports on everything else I've ever bought from Mark) but I've been running one from Auto Ricambi for about a year with no problems.maytag wrote:Any reviews on this alternator?
