I did a oil change on the diff today. It was overdue, and I wanted to change to synthetic. My question, even though it seemed to be fully drained,it only took 1 quart and started running out of the fill port.Is this ok,or should I jack it up and force more in?The manual said it should take a bit more. The car was sitting level in the garage.
Thanks,Craig

Re: diff oil change
Craig - It take 1.3 litres. Jack up the front of the car to get the other 0.3 in. Have fun!

Craig,
What synthetic did you use? This is on my short list of items I want to do before I do my annual road trip to the Jersey Shore.

Hey Tony,
I used 75w90 Castrol Syntec gear oil.I was always leery about synthetics, but I know so many people who use only syn.,that I have come around.I am using Rotella syn. in the motor and now the Syntec in the pumpkin. I am still usng dinosaur oil in the tranny, although I recently put in straight 50w Valvoline Racing oil in there.Alvon has used it for years, and his tranny innards looked brand new.

Re: diff oil change
Craig,
Thanks. I'm going to try and knock that one out plus my new panhard rod on Wednesday. I need to change the engine oil soon as well, I guess I'll go synthetic there too. I'm running seafoam through it right now. I just dumped a third of a can in the carb, can't wait to go see the cloud of smoke I'm going to create in a few minutes. Give my snotty neighbors something else to complain about.

Re: diff oil change
Craig,
You definitely have to angle the rear end (keep your mind out of the gutter ) a bit to get the full 1.3 liters in, and mine was bone dry when I refilled it .
The next time you change the transmission fluid, you can use the Redline MT90 if you want to use a synthetic - it is safe for the brass synchro's. I used Redline synthetics for everything except the motor - used Rotella Dino oil for the break - in.

Re: diff oil change
I use Redline in the rear diff, and Mobil 1 in the engine, but have stuck with dino for the tranny. I do use MT90 in my other cars with great results. Just afraid to put it in the Fiat.
