Hi
Alvon was kind enough to send me two used window regulators with the cable as my passenger side window stopped working. After I took off the door panel I found that the cable was quite frayed and off the track.
I removed my regulator and frayed cable and re-installed the new one.
Running the cable according to the diagram in the shop manual was easy enough. I was able to get the wire cables into the regulator drum. You have to insert two cables with the metal grommet into the drum.
However, getting the correct amount of slack proved to be very tricky. I did loosen the one pulley which you can loosen on the door but there was still way to much slack.
After a few up and downs with the manual window handle the cable got frayed again and came off track. The possible problems as I see them are:
1. I need to put another loop of cable onto the drum to decrease the amount of slack in the system.
2. These cables are just too old and dry and are very easy to fray despite putting plenty of lithium grease on them.
3. I am off with repsect to the orientation with which the cables come off the drum or I have criss crossed the cables. I am pretty sure that the cable going to the up pulley is on the inside (inside the door) coming out of the widest opening in the regulator assembly and the cable coming from the lower pulley is on the outside (facing the passenger seat) is coming out of a smaller opening in the regulator assembly.
I have a another cable and will give it a try because now I think I have two ruined cables. Should I get a brand new cable and have those grommets put on there?
Anybody have any experience with this and can help me?
Thanks,
Jeremy
Difficulty replacing the window regulator
Re: Difficulty replacing the window regulator
Jeremy,
Sorry to hear that you've had trouble with the regulators. I have fiddled with the window winders now and then, and haven't had the problems that you describe -- but maybe I've been lucky! If you can bring it up here to Ventura, I'd be glad to help you with it, and I'll be glad to give you another regulator or two, especially if the ones I sent you are defective (you did pay for them, so you should expect to get something that is good). I looked them over pretty good before I sent them, and they came from good operating doors, so I'm not sure what to think. The cables shouldn't rub against each other or bind up if they are installed correctly. Give me a call if you want to get together to figure it out.

The parts look good. I might be overlooking something.
I'm going to try again with the last cable. I appreciate the offer to come out to ventura to get some help.
I will definitely take you up on that if I can't get it this week or next.
thanks
