painting my hood and rockers

My spider is pearl white and I was thinking of painting my hood and rockers black. Were rally cars painted the same way? Some people have told me to paint it this way if I wanted to make it look like a race car like a rally car.

You could paint the rockers black and have green and red stripes going over the hood.

My 71 has the black hood and grille. I'm not sure it's for me.

the abarth CSA had a black hood, trunk, sills, and the quarter panal behind the rear wheels and beneath the lights. It also had black fender extensions..
