Brake Info

Post by mik »

My '69 brakes look a little tough. Haven't given them a try yet, just put on some new tires. Noticed some surface rust, nothing crazy. Any thoughts on best way to clean them up. Probably will be replacing, just wanted to ask if I should even bother. I would like to clean them up to see what shape they are really in. Won't know that until I test them. Thanks

The rotors usually cannot be refinished ("cut"). Rotors are very inexpensive for this car. If it's just surface rust, this will get scrubbed off during first use.

Take it for a spin. Like Bernie says, after a few stops, the rust will be scrubbed off. My Lemons racer had not been run in several years and the rotors looked terrible, but they worked just fine.

Thanks guys, that is what I was hoping to hear, would like to replace just for the looks of it, with a new shield, but money can go elsewhere for now. Thanks again. Mike
