Outsourcing a performance motor rebuild..

Hello everyone and Happy New Year!

Has anyone outsourced their engine rebuild to those poplular Fiat vendors/suppliers? From the few that I know of (and pleae feel free to add!):

1. Vick's
2. Shade Tree Enginetrics
3. Paeco
4. Allison Automotive
5. Guy Croft

Was interested in hearing first hand testimony, regarding the usual suspects: prices, quality, duration of project, results, customer service, etc...?

The objective would be to build a "performance" STREET ENGINE. And to get a general idea of the costs associated. Paeco's website does a good job of detailing their level's of rebuilds (stages/prices) and wanted to know of other's out there that did the same.

Thank you all in advance,

G.

Jon Logan at Midwest124.com is a good choice, he is very reliable and uses many GC approved techniques.

I highly recommend talking to Jon Logan at Midwest 124. He spent a bunch of time on the phone with me planning out my build. He can give you the pro's and con's of all of the different options out there and the approximate cost. I ended up sending him my intake and head for porting/deshrouding, cam install and valve job but did the rest of the build myself (he also rebuilt my transmission). Followed the "blueprint" he suggested and am EXTREMELY happy with the results.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Looks like three cheers for MidWest 124 and "0" points for Paeco?

Thanks again,

Jon at Midwest-124 is building my engine right now. A Performance build.
After searching my area for good mechanics, I could not find anyone I trusted to work on the car, and rebuilding
it..no way.
Jon is experienced, and has been a great guy to work with. He keeps me updated with pics, and details
every part that needs to be purchased, as well as his labor.
I didn't shop price much, and he may not be the cheapest.
He is in Ohio, and my car is in Tennessee. I didn't let the distance keep me from choosing him for the job.

He has a small shop and is limited to the amount of work he can do,so there is a wait, depending
on when you need him to start.
We are replacing the entire suspension, as well as everything we can take off.
Do me a favor, and wait until he has my car finished, before you hire him. HA

Will be a few months before my car is on the road, so that is al I know about his work to date.
I just want the car on the road before warm weather.
Will report back to the forum when he has my car finished.
I am expeciting a little race-car,and a fun summer driving this car.

Jon's a good guy and knows the ins and outs of our Fiat engines. With Guy Croft's recommendation behind him, I wouldn't hesitate to have him build one for me....if I didn't have my own engine builder in-house!

I had a cylinder head done by Guy Croft-it was a work of art and really woke the car up, highly recommended. Paeco I have heard many horror stories. PB
