Wax on....Wax off

Post by ga.spyder »

For those of us that dont live in SoCal,Hawaii,SoFla,etc..,after a long winter, spring is in the air! I took advantage of the warm temps to wax both Fiats.I bought Meguiars Gold Class Premium paste(I have never liked liquid wax).I found it a little hard to work, but the results were really good!I put it on and off by hand. This is the first time I have waxed my pass. side since it was wiped out by an idiot in a conversion van last year. This side of the car was repainted after extensive body work. They did a great job,and used very little filler.
I was just wondering what wax products the owners here like for their babies?

My personal favorite is plain old turtle wax :) I've tried only a few other kinds but I always resort back to the turtle wax, it really makes the spider look glossy !

The bumper is straight,I think it is the angle that makes it look crooked :D I have tucked both bumpers in 5-6'',and that may add to the illusion.I have 15x7 Team Dynamic wheels, and the tires are 205/50x15 Kumhos. The car also has the lowering springs.

Meguire's Tech Wax, one use and you'll never touch anything else ever again for non-concourse general purpose long lasting wax...

I almost bought the Tech Wax,but had never heard any feedback from it.I had used the Gold Class before,so I took the safe route.Autozone has a great selection of waxes and polishes, including Zymol and Tech Wax.

I've used Tech wax and it seems to be a good wax. I have all kinds of waxes and polishes. Some go on greasy and seem to never wipe off and some just wipe on and wipe off with ease. I just finished waxing my new 500 in Maguiar's Mirror Glaze.

I've been using this for a number of years, and on a variety of vehicles.

Kinda fiddly to apply, and you really have to start with a stripped clean surface, but it produces a great shine. I did my wife's car a few weekends ago when we had 80 degree days, and after a wash with Dawn detergent, a claying, and three coats of Liquid Glass, the finish is so slick it almost feels wet.

Not technically a wax, LG is a ploymer based polish. Kind of like putting a layer of Teflon on your car.

I've also used Zymol in the past, and that would get my second vote, if for no other reason than the smell! Wax your car with Zymol, and it smells like coconuts!!

OMG, didn't Dawn cause water spots? Ron painted my 72 with Glasurit, which has a 5 year warranty against acid rain, bird droppings, etc. I have even spilled brake fluid on the finish with no damage. Evidently, it can't combat Dawn dishwashing detergent. I ran out of car wash and used Dawn. To my dismay, it etched water spots in my clearcoat and I ended up buffing/polishing my entire car. What a disaster!

That is because Dawn strips every bit of wax from the car.It is great if you want to remove old finish, clay bar it,and then apply a new finish.Otherwise.....

That's true...and it's pretty well every dish soap that does. That's why you should wash your car with car wash designated liquid
