Post by RockySpider83 »

I hope you guys can help me get this thing into tiptop shape. I really want a great looking car. I just picked this up last weekend. I think its in good shape to start out so now its just getting it how I like it. Here are some pics.

I really am thinking about getting it painted silver with black racing stripes, and have the interor redone all black.
I saw one here in the forum that I realy liked.

I also want to redo the engine. get some more musle behind it. but not sure which way to go.
Either put a supercharger on it or do what others have done a get a Ford 5.0 put in it.
Hopefully after I get a team together on the resortation side of this project I will keep everyone informed
in the restoration area.

Hope everyone like my 1983 Pininfarina Spider Azzura

You've got a great looking car - but I'm afraid I'm a bit of a purist. A restoration, to me, would return this beauty to it's original form. Sounds like you're looking to do a "resto-mod" - not something I'd want to do, but it's your car and I'm sure that whatever you do, you'll find all kinds of help on this forum!

Very cool car. The Ford 5.0 will take a lot more time, money and modification than most realize. The car looks great you may want to see about getting the most out of a great motor design. You can get to 140 hp with a beutiful looking engine and a 2200 or 2300 pound car that drives great with a few modifications.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Hi RockySpider83
Nice spider you have there, IMHO I wouldn't put a V8 in it, it is a lot of engineering work and the transmission and diff wouldn't be able to handle it.
I reckon just put a small turbo in it, that can be done with minimal modification if you don't put too much pressure.
I have never driven a Legends Industries turbo model but all the article say it's like having a small V8 under the bonnet (hood).......

Hello and welcome to the forum! Does the A/C work? I'm another guy piling on the side of "don't change it", but my comments apply to the interior. In your part of the world, black would be unbearable on a roadster.

Power output of your engine should be in the 100 hp range, which is about the same as a first-generation Mazda MX-5 (Miata). Some of us here have spent a hefty sum (equivalent to the price of the car) to get another 20, 30 or 40 hp, and these Spiders still can't keep up with a current-generation Miata, let alone a performance car. Spiders are in their element as a classic sporting cruiser. You can't compete with the performance of a modern car, but a modern car doesn't have the charm and uniqueness of a vintage Spider. A guayabera and a Churchill is the right look for a Spider, let the Fast and Furious do their own thing.

Welcome Rocky. Nice looking car. Have you ever had a convertible with a black interior? I would never buy one again. Even in my moderate climate, I got 2nd degree burns on the backs of my legs from a black-interiored convertible. I couldn't rest my arm on the top of the door. IMO black is a no-go for a convertible. I don't know why so many were made. Cheaper, I guess.

Thanks everyone for your comments. This is going to be my first car "in the resorting" area so I was not sure how to go. My father inlaw is a "retro-remod" guy he bebuilt an ol Shelby, an old willies, now he been working on an Ol ford model-t. I know that this is probly not the place to show his lastest but maybe it will give you an idea of how he wants to help me. It will be a total reto-mod if I get his help. If you know this ol ford model-t then you will understand what he can do for me.
Under the hood is a never used 1998 second-generation Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. Recalabrated at a 17% angle to fit in the engine compartment (don't ask)
Image
Since he is a forgemaster, machine miller, and a fitter. he made almost all that you see (back axel area) in this picture.
Image
He tells me If I buy the raw material and comeup with some idea, and also asking you guys for opions he can make it.
He wants to make my 83 Pininfarina Spider Azzura 4wheel drive!!! Is he crazy or what???
So heres the concept I have 2 ways to go any more ideas would be great.
Idea #1
Basicly a knock-off of this car but
1. with 4wheel drive
2. hydrolics so I can raise and low the car in dirt areas and street area (I live in area where everyone shows off thier cars on sat. and goes to the sand dunes on sundays)
