I was have carb problems so I rebuilt my spare and put it on. It will run fine but it will not hold an idle. Where should I start with adjustments (idle, mixture and the lever screw)? Thanks
it runs fine in the high rpms. i dont think its getting gas in the low rpms. any suggestions?

Do you have the idle shut off soleniod on the carb? If so, does it click with wire on and off?
Idle mix screw should be about 3 turns out.
Idle/low speed jets often plug on these, and need to pulled and cleaned, even after carb overhaul.
If you put your hand over top of carb does it help idle??

Solenoid test is fine. Will try adjust idle screw. i will go try the idle jet. Its a 78 with the 1800. It still backfires sometimes so I'll have my dad put his hand on the carb.

This is what my research turned up. I need to do this too.
Turn idle mixture screw in all the way, then back out 3 turns. Start the engine. To adjust the idle mixture, turn the screw in until the engine wants to stall. Note the position of the screw and count turns as you unscrew it, until the engine rpm’s become inconsistent. Note the position and set the screw back halfway to the stall point.
Adjust idle speed control to desired speed.
Go back to idle mixture screw and start over.
Repeating process 2-3 times should bring things in.

I've done this a couple of times now and it always pops once it gets to 3-31/2 rpms. Maybe an electrical problem?
