Ok, vac advance is leaking sucked hose and no movement. The car came with 2 big boxes of new parts and lo and behold! new vac adv. assm!
Now the big Q. How can I replace it without pulling the distributor to get to those 3 'lil screws on the bottom? I have a timing light and the factory service book but seeing those little tabs would be a bear so any ideas? Oh, can I put it or the cap back with the plug wires pointing to the right (180degrees)for hood clearance?? If so, how??
Thanks.

Re: '81 vac advance replacement Q?
I would plan on pulling the dizzy. here is where planning is very important. Pull the cap off and mark where the rotor is pointing.(this needs to be a location on the motor, not on the dizzy). at this time also figure out how you want to located the wires and mark the new rotor position. i looked thru some pix and had a motor with the wires coming out at the 3 o-clock position (carbed. wont work with FI). when you pull the dizzy, it will corkscrew out. pay attention to the position when it is finally free of the drive. this position, plus the change is where you will start when you reinstall the dizzy. good luck. digital camera is your friend here.
