Bought a rebuilt starter for my 78 Spider & turned out to be crap (online freeshipping uniselect USA AmherstNY and starter came from BBB Indust. in Ontario CA91761) the plastic pinion carriage holder had partially melted in a previous life and kept the bendix from releasing (horrible sound). Anyway I used it and my original starter for creating a semi-rebuilt starter, i.e. new brushes, cleaned inside & out, & new solenoid. I installed it and started and ran fine until it gets to operating temp and it then cuts out. Tach goes to max and then drops to 0 and engine dies. It will start again and same thing happens and sometimes bendix sticks and keeps cycling with flywheel and screeches terrible!!!
Then I try ignition and it clicks. Then put in gear and rock it, it will start only to do it again. What is this?? My flywheel and starter gears look pretty fair and not in bad shape. I have never had any problems with this car at all. it's a mystery to me.

STARTER ISSUE
Re: STARTER ISSUE
Since everyone has left me lonely I will have to respond to my own post. I have recently discovered elec. under the glove box. Since this starter issue is my first and only major problem with the 78 spider, I have never had to even look for the voltage regulator or other connectors.
Anyway I have already spotted a wire disconnected from a small regulator type unit. Tonite I will investigate more and may get lucky and solve my Fiat problems.
