Rear Calipers

Nope...this is not another question on how to rebuild :D

I am going to purchase already rebuilt units for both the rears. Looking for people who have done the same and who you have bought from AND were you satisfied. Mine probably could be rebuilt, but I am just not up to WANTING to deal with this...the fronts were a cake walk (thanks to this forum and my shop manual).

I actually just replaced my rear calipers on my '73 last night. I had purchased a couple from my local O'Reilly Auto Parts store about a year ago for my '76 and never got around to installing them. I just picked up the '73, which is a driver, and decided to install them there instead. If I'm not mistaken, International-Auto had them at over $100.00 per side. I picked up some reman A1-Cardone units for around $80.00 each at O'Reilly's (usually 1 day away and no shipping). So far, they're working flawlessly, but I've only driven the car for a day. A1 Cardone is probably the best aftermarket remanufacturer out there, but sometimes you will run into issues with heli-coiled bleeder screws, etc. All in all though it's a better value than IAP, at least on this particular part.

In case you change your mind, the back aren't that much harder. The hardest part is putting the pawl back on. Once you figure that out, it is easy.

I changed out mine 2 years ago with a new park brake cable and still cannot get the park feature to work. I can have someone pull up on the brake handle and see the movement at the calipers, yet the disk is free. One side provides a little drag, but that is it. I have tried turning the adjuster different ways (line on top or line on bottom) and reassembled. I'm still stumped, but would really like to have a park brake for hill holding, ect.

Any thoughts? Charlie
